John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

This was a directive that Jesus gave to his disciples. We are His disciples. Jesus is instructing us to love as He loved. And how did He love? He loved by giving His life for each of us. Are you willing to lay down your life for your fellow brethren?

I am sure that answer would be a solid Yes if it were for someone, we loved that treated us like gold. What about the person that offends us? What about the person we don’t see eye to eye within the faith? What about the person that has done things that hurt us so deeply? Can we really love them in that way?

Jesus set the example for us to follow. He loved regardless of what a person believes about Him even if it was wrong like the religious leaders of His day. Yes, He even loved them. He loved His disciples even though they didn’t always listen to Him or understand Him and abandoned Him in His 11th hour. He just loves. He loved so much that He gave his life. He loved the whole world and that means everyone. This is how we ought to love. See love is not just a word that should be taken lightly and tossed around. It means giving up the thing that we hold most precious. Our very life.

Attention taken away

To a space far above the earth

Focused on the Vine that is true

Blood bath, resurrected power

Love up, face down

Humbly approaching the throne

Reeling in with a dance of delight

Bliss beyond description
