Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

What is faith? Faith is the substance. What is substance? Substance is something tangible. It’s real. Hope is the beginning of faith. The definition of hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. It is the root that springs forth the faith. We cannot give up and become hopeless. We must remain full of hope.

The evidence of things not seen. Well, that sounds like an oxymoron. Usually, evidence suggests something that is seen. Something that is provable, can be measured, verified, and documented. But here it is saying the evidence is in things that we cannot see. However, we can see it in the spiritual realm. Which is the true reality.

Everything we see around us took faith. Someone had to have faith so we could ride in a car, travel in an airplane, communicate through mobile phones, use electricity, and even make a cake. You have to have faith that when you combine eggs, milk, flour, butter, vanilla extract, sugar, salt and baking powder that the results will be a cake. Even putting the ingredients in the oven takes faith. You didn’t see the cake in the bowl or oven, but you have the expectation that when it is baked there will be a cake. Oh boy, now I want cake. I’ll take chocolate with cherries on top, please.

Set my hope up high

Don’t ever take a dip or trip

Turn it up, turn it up

And infuse that substance

That is lying in wait to rise

It got me all bound up

Like a rattlesnake

Gripping its prey

In a good way

In the right way

I fix my eyes on things unseen

Behind the wall I go

With a good faith

It’s a good thing

I step to the other side

It’s used to shield me

No penetration or domination

I fight the good fight

My battle gear is set

In faith I firmly stand
